The EMA Grappling "Toe Hold" club at Essential Martial Arts is one of a handful of officially recognized "Toe Hold Clubs" through Scientific Wrestling (www.scientificwrestling.com).
The club focuses heavily on training primarily under Catch Wrestling Rules. However, where applicable, the concepts and techniques taught will also be shown for Street Defense as well as Mixed Martial Arts.
Catch Wrestling is a painful and brutal form of Grappling that was developed in Europe and became popular in America through organized bouts as well as carnival matches. The crowds at the carnivals loved the matches. However, over time some promoters decided that matches with predetermined outcomes were more exciting than legitimate matches and with that "Professional" wrestling was born. However, legitimate catch wrestling matches still took place around the world.
Today Catch Wrestling is sought out by: Competitive grapplers, Mixed Martial Art competitors, Former wrestlers looking to learn submissions, Martial Artists wanting to expand their knowledge base, self defense aficionados who understand the importance of take downs, take down defense and ground control. Regardless of the reason for training, Catch Wrestling is a unique sport that is nearly extinct in the mainstream. The aim of the Grappling "Toe Hold" Club at Essential Martial Arts is to help keep this dying sport alive.
EMA's Grappling "Toe Hold" Club meets at EMA of Greensboro every Wednesday night from 7:00-8:00 pm. Club members should arrive and begin warming up at 6:45 pm.
